Joy or “Just Wait”?

Joy or “Just Wait”?

This great article was sent to me by Joelle and she thought you would all enjoy reading it. I really enjoyed it.  I'll admit I am guilty sometimes, having a teenager and all.

Have a wonderful safe weekend!

Minneaplois Institute of Art

Ok, I am sure this isn't news to you, but did you know the Minneapolis Institute of Art has FREE admission?  We brought our family there this week and it was awesome! We were given a free tour and the tour guide was so great and interactive with the kiddos. She was so knowledgeable and was able to share a lot of interesting facts and history she was able to even keep the kids' attention. I was so impressed by the amount and variety of artwork. There was so much to see that we were unable to get through the whole museum. We are planning to visit again in the near future. Maybe a mama's day out?  http://www.artsmia.org/  Click the link for more info!

I hope you all enjoyed your time at MOPS today. It was so great to see you all! It is going to be such a great year!

A Tasty giveaway

I get into a cooking rut a lot! I find that I am rotating the same 8-10 meals all the time. With busy days I am lacking time and energy to be creative.  It is important to me to put a wholesome meal on the table that everyone will enjoy.  I stumbled upon (even though it has been around for ages) a little gem that has mostly replaced all my big bulky cookbooks.  Taste of Home Magazine.  It's a magazine that is full of tried and true family recipes from at home cooks like us.  They showcase a little of everything in each magazine from appetizers, side dishes, main dishes, desserts and much more.  A lot of the recipes ask for ingredients I usually have on hand and it helps bring variety to our dinners.  It is something I enjoy getting in the mail and even my girls love going through it picking out new recipes to try. You can check out the website and join the community by signing up for a free profile.  You can browse recipes, save your favorite recipes to your online recipe box, and you can even share your own family recipes.  Follow the link to see for yourself.  Be sure to be there on Thursday for an opportunity to win your own subscription to Taste of Home Magazine!! http://www.tasteofhome.com/

Mentor Mom's, DGL's, and Steering-OH MY!

My first year of MOPS I'll admit I was so confused on the inner workings of it.  I had no idea really what or who leadership was, I didn't understand what A DGL was, and I was especially lost on what a mentor mom was.  That first year I really only formed one connection (love ya, Trish) and I kept coming only because I got like a second away from my screaming grouch-a-saurus.  I wasn't sure if I was going to come back, but right before the MOPS year began I was asked to be a DGL.  I got information that outlined the duties of a DGL (mystery one, solved) and thought it sounded like a fun and exciting opportunity.  I met my DGL coordinator (love ya, Gabe) from the Steering team and she really took the time to let us in on what the steering team did, who they were, and how they helped set the tone for the MOPS meetings.  The first meeting came and I met my Mentor Mom (love ya, Lisa) and was I ever in for a sweet surprise!  I finally knew what a mentor mom was.  She was an angel with a listening ear, she gave honest not sugar coated advice, she was a prayer warrior, and she was just one of the girls.

Why am I sharing this? Because, I hope this year you will get a clear picture of who we are as a leadership team, what we do, and why we do it.  We want to make MOPS an exciting and fulfilling part of your life.  We want to make sure that we are helping to feed you as a whole woman in a faith, family and mom connection.  We want you to know that we are here for you, not just at MOPS but everyday! We care about you and your family and we find it a privilege to pray for you and to encourage you on your journey.

I am so excited for what this upcoming year holds.  We have such an amazing group of DGL's-2 of which were at my table as a DGL (Love ya, Mieka and Tammy), mentor moms who are second to none, and steering members who are pretty awesome. All of which bring their own special gifts to their position. I look forward to seeing you all on Thursday!

Something Funny Happened on the Way to the Grocery Store!

I found myself alone in the car today.  I was feeling a little sorry for myself-Stressed at the first week chaos of homeschooling, stressed that my mother in law is here visiting, and stressed at a recent health scare for my dad.  I won't lie, there were tears.  Oh poor me tears.  Self consuming tears.  Selfish, life isn't fair tears.  But then, something funny happened.  God showed up in a song and it changed my heart.  A song I've heard a hundred times, but today the words came to life.

It got me thinking about how very blessed we are to live in a country where we are free to share our thoughts and opinions, to disagree, to think freely, to dress as we please, to go where we please, to eat what we please and to worship our God freely and openly without fear.  This is normal life to us.  We don't really appreciate these freedoms until we are reminded that life isn't so everywhere else.

My mother in law is here visiting from a country much different from our own.  The country my husband still dreams about in his sleep but will never gaze upon with his own eyes again. This woman has lived through a revolution and watched how basic freedoms we enjoy be stripped away from her and her family practically overnight.  Freedoms, she too, took for granted until they were no longer there. From freedom to oppression and from joy to fear. Here, she is free! She sleeps without fear and she reminds us that despite all the problems we are blessed.  So I will shout with joy to the Lord, all the earth (Psalm 100:1) and  I will do it without fear, for I am a blessed American woman!  Here is the song.  Crank it up and let it speak to your heart too!  http://youtu.be/_MbcYyOsF50
A prayer for you:
Thank you God for blessing me with being a woman, wife, and mother here in America.  Thank you for the blessing of clean water, abundant food, education, and medicine regardless of money.  Thank you God for the freedom to worship you wherever and whenever we choose- free from persecution.  Lord, I pray for the women who live oppressed persecuted lives. For the women who live in fear and without hope.  Lord, somehow someway touch them and deliver them from the bondage.  With praise and thanksgiving to you, my mighty King-Amen!
If you would like more details about today's post I would love to share with you!

We will never forget

We all have our stories. Stories our children will ask about one day.  Where we were, who we were with, and how we heard about it.  We all saw the horrific images and stayed glued to our TV's for days.  We remember how eerily quiet the skies were and how we let our differences go to become united as a country.  In one day we saw the very worst and the very best of humanity.  We saw what one human being was willing to give up to save another human being, we saw heroism and bravery on a scale we might never actually get to witness again (this is including our soldiers out fighting right now), and we were brought together as a country, even for just a moment, like we may never experience again.
For the brave men and women of the flights, for the first responders, for our firemen, police officers, for those who stayed back to make sure everyone got out, for those who left last, for those who went back in, for the doctors, nurses, medical professionals, good Samaritans, clergymen, our brave soldiers, and all those who shed tears for the loved ones they lost-WE WILL NEVER FORGET!

God Bless the USA!!

Happy Labor Day and my 12th first Day of School

Welcome to Mentor Monday.  I know technically I am not a mentor, but I am certainly close.
Well, we made it through another summer vacation.  We had a lazy uneventful but fun summer.  I'll admit, I am very sad to see it end. I am gearing up for my 12th first day of school....YIKES!

I was sitting here thinking back 12 (that flew by) years ago, Labor Day.  My oldest, Alison, was a precious itty bitty five year old with pink glasses.  She was anxious for her first day of kindergarten-I was not! Tuesday came. Even though we could of slept in a bit (because she had the afternoon class), Alison was up early-ready to make it official. Sporting a new outfit, her name tag, and her new pink backpack, that was almost bigger than her-we headed out on a beautiful Colorado day, on our short walk to school.  The classroom was buzzing with excitement as the kiddos explored their classroom and made new friends.  The teacher gave parents a few minutes to take pictures and give extra hugs.  One by one parents started to trickle out until it was just me.  I was thinking "They expect me to leave this precious child who hasn't left my side for more than 5 minutes for almost 6 years, here alone-without her mama?".  I made up my mind right then, that she needed me too much to leave. I was gonna stay.  Of course, the kindly teacher assured me that she would be OK and that I would see her in a few hours.  I left that classroom and cried my heart out all the way home. Sad, because life as I knew it had changed forever and it changed so suddenly in just one day. No more leisurely afternoon Hundred Acre Wood picnics, no more late night blanket fort sleepovers, and no more little shadow all the time.  She was a big girl doing big girl things- without me!  Time passed slowly that first day.  Time eventually passed and I made my way to pick her up.  I remember thinking how upset she must of been all day and how glad she will be when she sees me.  I envisioned her plowing through the crowd and jumping into my open arms begging to never go back.  When she saw me she was in tears, but not for the reasons I thought...the girl didn't want to leave school.  She really burst my bubble.  She had a blast-without me!  Here I was mourning and she was having the time of her life.  Life did change that day but certainly not for the worse.  We just moved into a different season of life and it was still wonderful.  Broukie came along and I went through it all again.  Now I am sitting in the same place as I was 12 years ago except this time, my baby-my last born, my only son will be  starting his journey as a kindergartner.  Yes, I will cry and have a moment but I will look on with joy as I watch my boy learn and grow and I'll be reminded how very blessed I am.

I know I am sharing this milestone with some of my MOPS sister's and my prayer for them is that God will be near to each of you as you kiss the sweet faces of your babies as you send them out into the world. May he comfort you as you adjust to a new season. For all our babies, may God watch over each of them as they begin a new school year.  I pray for safety and protection over each of them.  May God Bless each of you!

Fun Fabulous Friday and MDA

Welcome to Fun Fabulous Friday.  Cheesy, you bet ;)! I thought this would be a fun way to share how you spend time with your families, the fun traditions you have started, special occasions and how you celebrate. Also, I would love to be able to share Pinterest success and failures.  Please email me, I would love to hear from you!  If the fear of writing something is keeping you from sharing-don't, I will be happy to write it for you:). If sharing a Pinterest pin, would you pretty please send me the link and also a picture (if possible) of the after and a little about if it was a success, a fail, or what you did to put your own twist on it. Thank you!

I would like to wish you a Happy Labor Day weekend.  The grand finale of summer.  I will miss the smell of sun block, hot days, BBQing and sleeping in:) The MDA (Muscular Dystrophy Association) telethon is another 'you know summer is over' event.  I can remember watching it as far back as I can remember.  Though the telethon itself has gone through some major changes in the last few years, what they are trying to accomplish has not. Great breakthroughs have happened thanks to the research grants and clinical trials and studies they have been able to fund.  The MDA association has given hope to families when all seemed hopeless.  Muscular Dystrophy has affected our MOPS group.  Thomas, the 6 year old son (and BFF of my son, Jacob) of our fabulous and sweet Publicity Coordinator, Joelle, is living with Becker Muscular Dystrophy (BMD).  I have seen first hand how this disease is impacting a family.  Thanks to MDA, they have been able to access state of the art services, help, and support they need to help Thomas strive. I am inspired by their courage, their joy, and mostly their faith. If you would like to learn more about MDA or would like information on how you can help just click on the link.  http://mda.org/  Have a safe and wonderful holiday weekend!
